We tend to respect, value, and support the concerns of the first half of life: establishing ourselves in the world, developing our identities, and prioritizing our homes and work.
We we are not so prepared for the second half of life. Often, we focus on saving for retirement, and looking forward to more freedom. There is less attention paid to considering personal priorities in this planning, including identifying what we really value and what or whom we cherish. As well, there is little preparation for how to live with life’s inevitable changes (e.g., empty nesting, wondering about a final job or career change, and navigating potential illness or changing abilities).
In this 4-week course, with mindfulness as the foundational practice, we will explore some of the implications of these inevitable changes in our roles, expectations, identities, appearance, and spirituality. With an attitude of kindness and curiosity, we can develop a fuller, deeper appreciation of who we are and embrace the possibilities of who we might become!
